Donors Needed for 7th Annual Princeton Book Bag and School Supplies Drive

backpacksThe Princeton Human Services Department is seeking donors for the seventh annual book backpack and school supplies drive that benefits children from lower-income families in town.

Families and social service organizations in Princeton have requested book bags and supplies for about 100 children. Items donated by local businesses and residents are distributed to children from low-income families who attend the Princeton Public Schools and will entering kindergarten through sixth grade this fall.

If you would like to participate in this year’s drive, you can drop off donations at the Princeton Human Services office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is located in the former borough hall at One Monument Drive. The deadline for donations is this Friday Aug. 12.

Items that can be donated include book bags, notebooks, binders, folders, loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and other school supplies.

  1. We’ve donated to these kinds of school supply efforts many times in the past but the August 12th deadline is inconvenient as we don’t go shopping for our son’s supplies until much later in the summer. I don’t recall such an early request in the past.

School starts after Labor Day, which is quite late this year. Why does the Princeton Human Services office need 3+ weeks to receive and then re-distribute these supplies?

  2. Does this organization take used items? I tried to donate some nice, safe toys to another organization several years ago, and these were rejected. I was told the donations had to be new and in their original packaging.

I was incredulous for many reasons.
