Man Assaulted with Hammer on Lytle Street

A 22-year-old resident of Lytle Street in downtown Princeton was allegedly knocked down, kicked, and assaulted with a hammer just after 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 before he was rescued by another man on the street, police said.

Antonio Del Cid-Mijangos, 44, of Lytle Street, William Del Cid-Barillas, 23, of Lytle Street, and Edwin Del Cid-Barillas, 21, of Birch Avenue allegedly were walking on Lytle Street when they approached the victim.  The three men allegedly pushed him to the ground and kicked him repeatedly. The victim was able to get to his feet and escape to a nearby backyard. The three men then allegedly attempted to assault the victim with a hammer taken from the rear bed of a nearby parked pickup truck. The victim called out for help and was assisted by a 29-year-old male Lytle Street resident. Both were able to escape into a nearby home and lock the door. The three men continued to pursue the victim to the home and attempted to break into the home by kicking and pounding the door, causing damage to the house. When police arrived, all three of the accused men were placed under arrest. The victim and his rescuer sustained minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital.

All three accused men sustained injuries and were transported to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. It appears as though at least two of the accused individuals were inadvertently struck with the hammer during the attack.

The three alleged assailants were charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and criminal attempted burglary. Bail was set at $50,000 with no 10-percent option. All three men were transported to the Mercer County Correctional Center.
