Princeton Police Save Man’s Life with Portable Defibrillator

Princeton Police officers recently saved the life of a 76-year-old man who had collapsed on the second floor of the Arts Council of Princeton.

William Melin of  Easton, Pa. was unresponsive and had no pulse when police officers responded to the emergency call at the Arts Council. They assessed Melin’s condition and quickly began CPR. Officer Lucas Schwab arrived with an automated external defibrillator and placed the AED pads on Melin’s chest while the other officers continued to perform chest compressions and rescue breathing. After two shocks were delivered, Melin regained a pulse and began breathing again.

The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad transported Melin to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Officers recently spoke with the family, and Melin is doing well.

  1. Great job by the Princeton Police Department. These men and women do a fabulous job. I am thankful we have people like this in our community.

And thank you Ms. Knapp for bringing this to our attention. Too often we only hear about our law enforcement officials when misconduct is alleged. And way, way more often than not, those allegations turn out to be false. As in the case of that Princeton professor earlier this year. (Still waiting from an apology and retraction from the University’s feckless President.)
