Hopewell Township Police Blotter: Theft on Timberlane, Illegal Dumping

Purse Theft
A resident of Timberlane Drive reported Oct. 24 that some time the previous night, an unknown person entered her home and stole her purse. The person removed a screen window and used a wooden pole to reach into her residence and steal her purse, which she said contained numerous gift cards and medications. The purse was located outside the residence in the morning. The investigation is ongoing.

Illegal Dumping
Two people with New York addresses were charged with illegal dumping at the ShopRite parking lot just after 11 p.n. on Oct. 24. An employee reported that for the past several weeks, someone had been dumping household garbage in front of the clothing collection bin located in the ShopRite parking lot. The employee was watching the bins when a box truck pulled up, two people got out, and then allegedly started throwing trash on the ground in front of the box. Police identified the two suspects as Ana Rodrigues and Jose Fernandez of Copiague, New York. They were each issued a summons at the scene and released after cleaning up the trash that they had left. Their cases will be heard in municipal court.

Car Crash
On Oct. 14 at about 5 a.m., police responded to reports of a one-car crash responded on Hopewell Wertsville Road. The driver, David Mehltretter of Hopewell, had drifted off the roadway and struck a guardrail. The car, a 1999 Saab, then flipped onto its roof. Mehltretter, 18, was transported to an area hospital by the Amwell Valley Rescue
Squad for minor injuries. During the crash investigation, police allegedly discovered a mason jar and a prescription bottle containing marijuana. Mehltretter was charged with the possession of marijuana
under 50 grams, careless driving, and possession of a controlled and dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Possession of Marijuana

Just before 8 a.m. on Oct. 13, a police officer stopped a 2007 Cadillac on Denow Road for not having a front license plate. While speaking to the driver, who was identified as Wilson Fearon of Trenton,  police allegedly discovered that he was found in possession of marijuana. Fearon, 22, was placed under arrest, charged with possession of marijuana, transported to police headquarters, and released pending a court date.

DWI

At about 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 12, police stopped a 2006 Volkswagen on
Rt 29 near Church Road because the driver failed to dim his high beams. While speaking with the driver, who was identified as Greg Paros of Ewing, police allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath. After a roadside sobriety test, Paros, 41, was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to Dim Headlamps, and not having a valid insurance card.
