New York Times Op-Ed Columnist David Brooks to Speak at Princeton Seminary Nov. 22

Columnist and commentator David Brooks will speak about community life and the social fabric that binds us together on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Princeton Theological Seminary.

Brooks is an op-ed columnist with The New York Times and a political and cultural commentator on The PBS NewsHour, NPR’s All Things Considered, and NBC’s Meet the Press.

He will discuss covenant and community life with Princeton Seminary President M. Craig Barnes at 5 p.m. in the Iain R Torrance Atrium at the Princeton Theological Seminary Library, which is located at 25 Library Place in downtown Princeton.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Parking is available in the lot behind the library.

Brooks is the author of “Bobos In Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There” and “The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement.” In 2015 he published the New York Times No. 1 book “The Road to Character.”

After graduating from the University of Chicago, Brooks became a police reporter for the City News Bureau, a wire service owned by the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times. He worked at The Washington Times and The Wall Street Journal, and served as senior editor at The Weekly Standard, as well as contributing editor for The Atlantic and Newsweek. He teaches at Yale University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Barnes is the seventh president of Princeton Theological Seminary and is the author of several books and articles that focus on the struggle of contemporary people making sense of God’s grace. He is an editor-at-large and frequent contributor to The Christian Century magazine.
