The Robbinsville Township teenager charged with fatally hitting Robbinsville Schools Superintendent Steven Mayer in April pleaded guilty on Monday afternoon in Mercer County Family Court, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said.

The driver, whose name is being withheld because she was a juvenile at the time of the offense, entered a guilty plea for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and a guilty plea for careless driving.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the driver will be sentenced to a probation for three years. Her driver’s license will be suspended for two years, and she will be required to perform 200 hours of community service. Sentencing is scheduled for January 2017.

The teen was using a cell phone while driving and was rushing to school because she was late for a field trip. The superintendent was jogging with his dog near the school just after 6 a.m. when they were both fatally struck on April 19. The teen then left the scene, knowing she hit someone.
