Morven Announces Groundbreaking Ceremony for Future Education Center

The trustees of Morven Museum and Garden have approved a new building that was 10 years in the making called the Stockton Education Center.

The building, designed by GWWO Architects of Baltimore, will include program space, a dedicated classroom, new offices, storage space and more. GWWO’s other projects include the Interpretive Center at George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia, the Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine Visitor Center, and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center.

“The Board of Trustees has been examining its site needs for over a decade,” said Robert Wilson, chair of the board. “With greater space, we can fulfill our mission by providing more robust programming on-site, sharing the remarkable history of Morven and its inhabitants, and celebrating the cultural heritage of New Jersey while accommodating much needed expanded back-of-house space to make these goals possible.”

C. Raymond Davis, with offices in Princeton, has been chosen as the general contractor for the year-long project. Construction is slated to begin in early March. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned at Morven for Thursday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
