Wind knocks down area trees, causes road closures and power outages (updated)

A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for Mercer, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset counties. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 or 50 miles per hour are possible.

Scattered power outages are possible. The strong winds already took down numerous trees in the Princeton area Sunday night and Monday morning.

As of about 1:30 p.m., Route 206 near Province Line Road is closed in both directions due to a downed tree. Avoid the area.

Hopewell Princeton Road between Hopewell Borough and the Mount Rose intersection is closed due to downed power lines. PSE&G personnel are aware of the issue and will be working to reset the lines.

PSE&G has also been advised of a cracked pole and low wires along Pennington Hopewell Road west of Crusher Road. The road will be closed between Crusher Road and Moores Mill Mt. Rose Road.

A large tree fell across West Shore Drive in the area of No. 87. The road is completely blocked. The Hopewell Township Department of Public Works will be removing the tree.

One lane of Province Line Road north of Cherry Valley Road is blocked due to a tree.

In Montgomery, County Route 533 (Millstone River Rd) in  between Staats Farm Road and Township Line Road is closed due to utility poles and wires down. Dutchtown-Zion Road closed between Route 601 and Pin Oak Road due to downed trees and a utility pole blocking the roadway.

Alexander Road between Faculty Road and Canal Pointe Boulevard was closed for about one and a half hours due to a downed tree and opened again just before 11 a.m.. Residents on Snowden Lane in Princeton reported that power was out late Monday morning due to a downed tree that took down power lines.

Skies will clear away to sunshine by Monday afternoon and winds are expected to subside by Monday evening.
