Hun Community Service Club hosts ‘senior prom’

Hun School of Princeton student Tyler Robbins chats with resident Chester Parkes during dinner.

Hun School of Princeton students recently hosted an old-Hollywood themed prom for the residents of Brandywine Senior Living in South Brunswick.

The prom is the club’s newest event. The club hosts several other events throughout the year, including campus blood drives, a dance for adults with special needs, trips to the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen in Trenton to serve meals.

More than fifty Hun School students took part in the planning and production of the prom, which included a special dinner, classic Hollywood decorations, a photo booth, and performances by the Hun School jazz combo and an a cappella group. Tables were decorated with pictures from movies like “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Annette Hochstadt, 90, a retired teacher from South Brunswick, enjoyed the big band music at the prom.

“I love the music, I love the whole thing,” Hochstadt said.

Hun student Noah Levinsky, a trumpeter in the jazz combo, said the group learned big-band tunes for the event, including Frank Sinatra’s “Falling in Love with Love.” The effort was worth it. “It was a lot of fun seeing everyone’s faces light up,” he said.

Hun School students (L to R) Ray Bodnar, Lexi Rudek, and Ryan Kasper pose with resident Margaret Tagliavia at the prom photo booth.
Brandywine Living resident Ruth Lafer receives a corsage from the Hun School’s Martin Caforio at the inter-generational senior prom.
