Planet Princeton weekend picks, March 17-19

The Alchemist and Barrister in downtown Princeton will celebrate St Patrick’s Day Friday with Irish music, corned beef sandwiches, the annual longbeard contest for charity, and beer of course. The Irish band Langaroo will be performing. The A&B has more than 76 beers on tap — $5 gets you a mystery beer and all proceeds go to the Princeton Fire Department. The A&B celebration runs all day until the bar closes at 2 a.m. 28 Witherspoon Street, Princeton.

You can also head to the Bucks County Playhouse Friday and Saturday for the Irish Music Festival. Quench your thirst at the inflatable Irish Pub in the courtyard (wear warm layers). Tickets start at $20, and two-day passes are available. More details and a full schedule on the Playhouse website.

Screening of Jackie” – Starring Natalie Portman, the film follows first lady Jackie Kennedy through her days in the White House and after the assassination of her husband. 6:30 p.m., Princeton Public Library Community Room. Free.

“Celebrate the Green” at D&R Greenway VOICES fundraiser – “Celebrate the Green” with a St. Patrick’s Day Party and “fun”draiser on Friday, March 17.  The event tales place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Music Together, 225 Hopewell-Pennington Road, Hopewell. Wear green and bring your dancing shoes. Theater to Go: To Kill a Mockingbird – Christopher Sergel’s adaptation of the Harper Lee novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” will be presented by Theater To Go at Kelsey Theatre. Mercer Green Fest – The 11th annual green expo will take place at the recreation center at Rider University this year. The Atlantic City Ballet – Two ballets equal one fantastic night of dance. A Joyful Noise, the Princeton Pro Musica in Concert – The Princeton Pro Musica, led by Ryan James Brandau, will be joined by the percussion ensemble of the College of New Jersey. The highlight of the program is “Chichester Psalms” by Leonard Bernstein.
