Amtrak announces schedule changes for summer track repair project

Amtrak’s summer repair project at Penn Station is slated to begin on July 10 and end Sept. 1. Amtrak says the “infrastructure renewal program” will advance several years of already planned work to improve conditions on tracks, switches, and other infrastructure at Penn Station.

Some services will be affected by the renewal work, but Amtrak officials said Acela Express service will run as scheduled. The following service adjustments have been made to Amtrak’s schedule for the duration of the project:

Northeast Regional Service – Three weekday round trips between New York and Washington have been canceled. Service between New York and Boston will operate as scheduled.

Keystone Service – Three weekday round trips will start and end in Philadelphia, and one weekday round trip will start and end in Newark. Service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg will operate as scheduled.

Empire Service – To be announced shortly.

Crescent – The Crescent will operate daily between Washington, DC and New Orleans. If you are traveling to or from destinations north of Washington, DC, you will be able to connect to other services.

Schedules are up to date online, and anyone with a trip already booked on affected routes has been contacted, according to Amtrak.

Additional work will last through approximately June of 2018. Most of that work will be done on weekends to minimize service disruptions, officials said.
