Princeton Area Community Foundation awards more than $86,000 in college scholarships

The Princeton Area Community Foundation has awarded more than $86,000 in scholarships to 28 high school and college students.

The Community Foundation awarded $33,050 to 11 high school students who will begin college this fall, and renewed another $53,260 in scholarships to 17 college students who will return to classes in September.

“We’d like to congratulate these talented students, and we wish them success as they continue their studies,” said Jeffrey Vega, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We are able to help these students thanks to our generous donors who have created scholarship funds here.”

A list of high school students, the colleges they plan to attend, along with the names of the scholarships and the amounts awarded per year:

Kyle Gankiewicz, Steinert High School – The College of New Jersey, $2,000, the Greater Mercer Scholarship (1 year)

Liam Martin Courtney, Hamilton High School West – Roanoke College: $5,000, the John R. and Shirley I. Forrest Memorial Scholarship (4 years)

Clay Sosis, Hopewell Valley Central High School – Emerson College: $5,850, Mary Elliott Wislar Memorial Scholarship (2 years)

Matthew Luke Hawes, Princeton High School – Harvard College: $1,000, Princeton Post No. 76, American Legion Dr. Henry J. Frank Scholarship (4 years)

James Verbeyst, Princeton High School – Kean University: $1,000, Princeton Post No. 76, American Legion Dr. Henry J. Frank Scholarship (4 years)

Andrew Phillips, Collingswood High School – Camden County College: $2,500, Michael McGarry Skowronek Scholarship (2 years)

Jordan Beneducci, North Hunterdon High School – College of Charleston: $4,350, Frank, Ada, and Elizabeth Compton Scholarship (1 year)

James D. Weber, Voorhees High School – Westchester University: $4,350, Frank, Ada, and Elizabeth Compton Scholarship (1 year)

Haylie Montemurno, Toms River High School East – The College of New Jersey: $5,000, Sandra M. Glazier Memorial Scholarship (4 years)

Sarah Sterling, Cranford High School – Sacred Heart University: $1,000, Macklin Soccer Scholarship (1 year)

Jessica Heyburn, Cranford High School – Rowan University: $1,000, Macklin World Language Scholarship (1 year)
