Normal Dinky train service resumes

Dinky train service resumed yesterday afternoon after a few days of down time. Frustrated commuters had to take buses to Princeton Junction instead.

Service was suspended July 17 and 18 because the train did not have an engineer. It was suspended yesterday for part of the day because of an Amtrak power outage that was scheduled while repair work is being done along the Northeast Corridor line.

Engineers on New Jersey Transit trains exercised their contract rights this week that allow them to take two days to report for work when schedule changes are made.

In addition to the Dinky train, several other trains were canceled Monday afternoon on the North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor line.

The cancellations added to commuters’ frustrations with NJ Transit this summer. This is the second week of Amtrak repair work at Penn Station. Some train schedules have been cut back for the summer while the repairs are being conducted. The Amtrak repair project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. Trains have been running up to 30 minutes behind schedule.
