Princeton firefighters responded to two calls on Monday night

Princeton firefighters had a busy Monday night, putting out one fire and then heading to a downtown business after some patrons smelled smoke and  smoke alarms went off.

A fire started in the attic of a house on Hunter Road just after 7 p.m. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, said Bob Gregory, director of the municipality’s office of emergency management. Gregory said it is possible some electric wiring in the house was jarred after a tree branch hit the house’s roof and damaged the gutters. Fortunately the homeowners were at home when the fire started. They noticed some lights were not working and an electrical breaker had tripped. They investigated, smelled smoke, and called 9-1-1.

Just as firefighters were finishing up the call on Hunter Road, the smoke alarms went off at Triumph Brewery on Nassau Street. Triumph was evacuated. Fire fighters investigated and it turned out that the smoke was cause by an elevator problem in the building next to the brewery, Gregory said. Triumph didn’t have to shut down and patrons were allowed to return.
