Main Street Bistro to close on Saturday

Main Street Bistro, a Princeton fixture for affordable drinks and casual fare for more than a quarter century, is closing for good tomorrow, Aug. 26.

The eatery was bought by the Fenwick Hospitality Group last year. The company also owns Agricola, the Great Road Farm, the Dinky Bar & Kitchen, and Cargot Brassiere. Jim Nawn, the owner of Fenwick, decided not to renew Main Street’s lease at the Princeton Shopping Center.

Nawn is planning to open a new restaurant at 277 Witherspoon Street called Two Sevens. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant will be located in the former medical professional building next to the AvalonBay apartment complex. Fenwick representatives have not confirmed whether Main Street’s liquor license will be transferred to the new eatery.

Some Main Street patrons were disappointed to go to the restaurant this week and find out it is closing this Saturday. Patrons had hoped the restaurant would remain open through the fall.

  1. The vegetarian selections there, formerly excellent, declined after Nawn bought it, so I haven’t eaten there in a while anyway. Shame for it to close. The shopping center seems to have priced out, or rejected for obscure reasons, all of our favorite businesses, starting with Taste of Mexico. And now has lots of empty space to show for it.

    1. When the new owners took over the shopping center they said they want to be like downtown Princeton. I don’t think they quite understand the clientele of the shopping center.
