Rider University, faculty reach tentative agreement for new contract

The Rider University administration and the Rider University chapter of the American Association of University Professors reached a tentative agreement late Friday night on a three-year contract for faculty, librarians and athletic staff members.

Details regarding the agreement have not been released yer. The agreement still must be approved by the Rider University Board of Trustees and ratified by the union membership. The union’s ratification meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 14.

With the agreement, a strike has been avoided. Rider University officials had posted job searches for faculty in the event that a deal was not reached and faculty members decided to picket.

School officials have said Rider is facing numerous financial challenges and declining enrollment. Westminster Choir College is being sold to ease some of the financial burden. The tentative buyer for the choir college has not been announced yet.

We will update this story with more information when it becomes available.
