Citizen groups to host forum tonight about proposed Transco compressor station at Trap Rock Quarry

The New Jersey Sierra Club and several area citizen groups will host a forum tonight regarding Transco’s proposed Northeast Supply Enhancement Project.

Transco wants to put a compressor station in Trap Rock Quarry in Franklin Township and create a new gas pipeline called the Madison Loop. The proposal includes 3.5 new miles of pipe in Old Bridge and Sayreville and 22 miles under the Raritan Bay. The project is meant to supply National Grid customers in New York.

“We are holding a forum to discuss the impacts from the proposed Transco pipeline and compressor station as well as how we can stop it,” said Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “The Sierra Club has had many national victories lately against pipelines and we have learned new tactics to stop these damaging projects. We are coming together to discuss how we can work together to stop these projects. With this proposal, Transco gets the money, Long Island gets the gas, and we get the pipe. Come out and hear from the experts on why we need to end this project and how we can work together to do so.”

The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the South Brunswick Senior Center, which is located at 540 Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction.
