A reader sent us footage of the train station that was taken during the storm Tuesday night. Commuters tried to figure out how to get to the other side and turned around as water flowed down the ramps and into the tunnel.

  1. When these underpasses were being designed and built 80~40 years ago . . . the emergency alternative would be to cross the tracks directly. This was before the frequency of very-fast trains that now use the NEC, as well as the higher platforms that make jumping down and getting up from the tracks almost impossible. The increased non-permeable paving of the immediate environment is probably a factor as well.
