Interstate 295 pavement resurfacing project begins Friday

The Interstate-295 pavement resurfacing project begins on Friday in Burlington and Mercer counties. Representatives from the New Jersey Department of Transportation said the  project will require temporary overnight lane closures and ramp detours on I-295 in Burlington and Mercer Counties.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 10 until 6 a.m. the next morning, workers will begin temporary lane closures on I-295 between Route 130 in Bordentown and Independence Avenue in Hamilton to mill and pave a four-mile stretch of road.  The I-295 southbound right lane and shoulder will be closed, as well as the northbound left lane. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction. All lanes will be fully reopened by 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Work will continue every night from Monday through Friday, with temporary lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day. Several ramps will be closed and detoured during the project, which is expected to be completed in the fall.

Recycled asphalt materials will be applied to existing pavement that is cracked or fatigued, to provide a smoother, safer driving experience. Officials claim the application of the materials will improve ride quality, skid resistance, and reduce noise, as well extend the lifetime of the pavement.
