Flash flood warning in effect for northeastern Mercer County and Middlesex County until 10:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Mercer County and Middlesex County until 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

At 4:38 p.m., doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warning area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen in some areas. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly in the areas of heaviest rain, according to the National Weather Service. Locations that could experience flooding include South Brunswick, North Brunswick, Princeton, Jamesburg, Hightstown, Cranbury and Hopewell.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the warning area. This includes the following highways: The Garden State Parkway between mile markers 122 and 133, and Interstate 287 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 20.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall could cause the flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. For your safety, please don’t drive through flooded roadways.
