Climate strike to be held Friday on Hinds Plaza in Princeton

Students from Princeton University and Princeton High School will host a local climate strike from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, on Hinds Plaza.

This event is being held as part of a Global Climate Strike. Millions of people plan to gather in locations around the world to demand that leaders take decisive action to address climate change, ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit in New York.

“We’re calling for a fossil fuel-free future and environmental justice,” reads a statement from Princeton organizers. “While similar strikes have been held in the past, we expect this to be the largest climate strike yet.”

The rally will feature several speakers, including high school students, university students, and Princeton Professor Rob Nixon. There will also be a post-rally march through town and the Princeton University campus.

  1. More power to these kids doing something about their environment..hopefully they see it through and not just jump off a bandwagon

  2. @Mr.T I respect your comment, but some students are more concerned about the environment then you think. This is not skipping out on class, this is taking a stand. We will do whatever it takes to make a change in the fate of our planet, and skipping out of school just draws more attention to the huge crisis that we are facing today. We are the change. We are the future, but there will be no future if nothing is done. So we’re doing something, we are taking a stand, it’s finally time to realize that nothing is going to change unless we change it ourselves. Skipping out of school today makes a difference, our classes today mean nothing if we’re not going to have a world in thirty years in which we can apply these skills.
So please, try to understand, that some of us are fighting for our futures, not just cutting classes.

    By the way Mr.T,

    There is no Planet B.

  4. Why aren’t the rallies being held on the weekend? Boycotting school is a strike against education, and the lack of education is at the heart of the inaction on climate change.
