Lawrence police detective Mark Harmon dies at 50

Mark Harmon, a detective who has served in the police department in Lawrence for almost a quarter century, died surrounded by his family and fellow officers on Sept. 16 after a long battle with cancer. He was 50.

Born in Trenton, he lived in Lawrenceville and Bordentown before moving to Allentown nine years ago. A 1987 graduate of Lawrence High School, he and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 1993.

Mark was a member of the Lawrence Township Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 209 and was a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church in Allentown. He was an avid New York Giants football fan, enjoyed watching New York Yankees games with his son, Ryan, cooking with his daughter, Molly, golfing with his son, Chris, and he would always ace the 19th hole after a round.

Predeceased by his beloved mother, Anne Carol Harmon, he is survived by his wife, Jodi Harmon, three children, Christopher, Molly and Ryan Harmon; his father, Peter Harmon, two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Yurko and their children, Katie and Charlie Yurko; Jessica and Adam Butera and their children, James and Sophia Butera; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert F. and Joanne McGuire Sr.; his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sherri and Stewart Sullivan and their children, Trevor, Eric, Connor, Danielle, Carter, Madison and Ricky; Michael and Lauren McGuire and their daughter, Meghan; and Robert F. and Debra McGuire and their children, Erin, Katie and Robert, III.; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Mark will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Allentown, NJ. The viewing for Mark will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
