West Windsor-Plainsboro High South alum rescues drowning man and dog in Boston

Katie Kellner, an elite runner who graduated from West Windsor-Plainsboro High South in 2009, rescued a man and a dog from a reservoir in Boston on Tuesday. The rescue has received national media attention.

According to published reports, the man was walking a dog near the Chestnut Hill Reservoir in Brighton when the dog ran off and chased a swan into the water. The man jumped in the water to rescue the dog, grabbed the dog, but became exhausted swimming because of the strong current. He started bobbing up and down and called for help.

Kellner, a runner for the Boston Athletic Association, was running when she noticed the man struggling in the water. She then jumped in to rescue the man and dog and helped them both reach land. The dog is healthy, and the man was taken to an area hospital for observation.

A multi-time state champion in high school, Kellner went on to win the Ivy League Championship at Cornell and become an NCAA Division I All-American. The 28-year-old is a coach and runs her own business, Forward Focus Running.

Olympic Trials qualifier and WWP-South graduate Katie Kellner, right, in 2017.
