“100 Years of the Kingston Volunteer Fire Company”–A Talk by George Luck Jr.
The Kingston Historical Society’s Spring 2024 Talk will be available as a “Hybrid”– you may attend in person, or pre-register to attend via Zoom. For directions, parking information, and how to register visit https://www.khsnj.org/talk/
Community fire protection for Kingston, New Jersey began with an organizational meeting on February 29, 1924. The Kingston Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (as it was then officially named) received a state charter later in that year. The Fire Company evolved as the community grew and as fire protection evolved. Fire Company volunteers originally came from surrounding farms, but now join from the village of Kingston and neighboring communities.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, past fire chief George Luck, Jr. will present an illustrated talk covering the history and membership of the fire company. Chief George Luck Jr is also vice president of the Kingston Historical Society and a familiar presenter of history in Central New Jersey, working with the Kingston Historical Society, the Rockingham Association, and other groups. He is a fifty-seven year member of the Fire Company and has spent many years researching the organization’s past.
The Kingston Historical Society will be mounting an accompanying display–“100 Years of Volunteers”–later this month at the Kingston Lock-Tender’s House on the Delaware and Raritan Canal at Kingston. The Kingston Lock-Tender’s House is open to the public on weekends and major holidays from April through October from 10 am to 5 pm and in November from 10 am to 4 pm. The House is closed from December through March. The GPS address is 39 Old Lincoln Highway, Kingston, NJ 08528.
