Michael Kownacky and Ted Otten, co-hosts of the “Dress Circle” on WWFM will speak at the March meeting of The Women’s College Club of Princeton. They will explore the development of the American Musical Theater with the emphasis on the words and music of Richard Rogers and his collaboration with Lorenz Hart which lasted twenty-four years. This partnership produced musicals including “Pal Joey”, “Too Many Girls”, and “Babes in Arms”. After Hart’s tragic death in 1943, Rogers teamed with Oscar Hammerstein. In a partnership that lasted sixteen years, they wrote classics of the American Musical theater including “Oklahoma’, “Carousel,” “The King and I”, and “The Sound of Music”. By following Rodgers music from his early work with Hart through collaboration with Hammerstein and Rogers’ later work, the development and maturation of this American favorite will be explored.
