Art Talk: Explore Ancient Greece

FreeJoin Adria Sherman, Princeton University Art Museum Docent, on a journey to ancient Greece through an in-depth exploration of works in the Art Museum’s collections. Through close-looking and “decoding” the works, Adria will discuss art-making techniques and mythological storytelling to discover what art reveals about daily life and traditions in ancient Greece.
About the Presenter:
Adria Sherman was a Nutritional Sciences Professor, PhD, at the University of Illinois and Rutgers University for 36 years. After retiring from Rutgers, she joined the Docent Association at the Princeton University Art Museum to return to her childhood artistic interests, study art history, and share her passion of art with others. Adria is also a fiber artist, creating her own textiles using various surface design techniques.
This event is part of the 2024 NEA Big Read – an initiative designed to broaden our imaginations and understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The featured book Circe by Madeline Miller retells a Greek story from the eponymous heroine’s point of view, giving voice to a lesser goddess of Homer’s The Odyssey.
