Rashad Malik Davis will team up with Veronica Olivares-Weber, Princeton community leader, artist, arts educator, and board member of the Arts Council of Princeton, to launch his second children’s book, Carefree, Like Me! Chapter Two: Sacra the Joyous. A celebration of indigenous Mexican culture, the party will feature a live reading, a performance by Kalpulli Huehuetlahtolli, an indigenous dance and education troupe that will perform their Danza Mexica, food, music, and arts activities, including a mini-mural activity about indigenous people, feathered bird wings, and clay pyramids.
About Carefree, Like Me! Chapter 2: Sacra the Joyous In the continued saga of Amir, a sensitive, heart-on-his-sleeve child, and Neena, his no-nonsense, rough and tumble best friend, the protagonists find themselves in a whole new realm, encountering another massive challenge: helping Sacra the Joyous. An abundance goddess who has lost her joy, Sacra is left unable to create wind, water, rain, and everything green, leaving her once-lush rainforest home a desert. Amir and Neena are tasked with helping Sacra get her smile and joy back so that life can return to the deserted realm. The story encourages children to learn about how we approach sadness, valuing our inner world while simultaneously seeing beauty in the world around us, the importance of community, and the incredible ancient Aztecs and their descendants.
