For its seventh season finale, the award-winning Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra will present “A Concerto Extravaganza!” on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 7 pm, at the Princeton Alliance Church on 20 Schalks Crossing Road, Plainsboro, NJ, 08536, at the intersection with Scudders Mill Road in Plainsboro.
The concert will be conducted by its director, Chiu-Tze Lin. It will feature the winners of the 2016 Young Artists Competition sponsored by the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra. They are pianist Max Wang, cellist Jessica Hong, and violinists Kit-Ying Cheng and Fiona Khuong-Huu. These young soloists were selected from over sixty contestants from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut who participated in the competition in February.
Kit Ying Cheng is from West Windsor, New Jersey. Kit Ying will perform the 1st movement of the Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No. 5.
Jessica Hong is a senior at Holmdel High School and is in the Juilliard Pre-College Division. Jessica will perform the 1st movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto.
Eight-year-old violinist Fiona Khuong-Huu is from New York. Most recently, Fiona performed at the UNESCO World Heritage “Teatro Olimpico” in Italy. She will perform the 1st movement of the Symphonie Espagnole by Lalo.
Eleven-year old pianist Max Wang is a sixth grader at the West Windsor Plainsboro Thomas Grover Middle School. He will perform the 1st movement of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major.
The orchestra will also perform the Overture to the “Italian Girl from Algiers,” a popular opera composed by Rossini, remarkable for its fusion of sustained, manic energy with elegant, pristine melodies.
General admission prices are $20, $18 for seniors and students. Premium seating is available at $30 each.
