Canceled: ‘Princeton, the Nation’s Capital 1783’ Lecture
July 20 • 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThis event has been canceled.
Educator and Princeton resident Barry Singer will give a talk on “Princeton, the Nation’s Capital 1783” on Thursday, July 20 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System. The American Revolutionary war ended in 1781, and the new American states awaited word that peace negotiations in Paris would result in a treaty. Because of negotiating delays, Congress had a dilemma. Although there was no money to pay the troops, it could not disband the army until there was a peace treaty. In June 1783 Congress, in session in Philadelphia, fled after an army mutiny. Congress relocated to Princeton where it remained in session for 4 ½ months. Advanced registration is appreciated.
