Chasing George is a 10-mile bike ride along the D&R Canal State Park path, in the spirit of the route Washington took on January 3, 1777 to fight in what became the Battle of Princeton. Starting at 12:00 at the Douglass House at Mill Hill Park in Trenton, the group will follow a George Washington reenactor to Princeton along the D&R Canal State Park trail. The ride ends approximately 1:20 at the Washington Route marker on Quaker Road, near the Historical Society of Princeton’s Updike Farmstead. Historical talks will anchor the start and end of the ride.
This event is a part of Princeton’s 5th annual Ciclovia, a free event that promotes healthy, active living by closing Quaker Road to vehicles (from 1 to 4 PM) and opening it for people to exercise, play, and learn. Families can run, walk, skate, and ride bikes along the route. Refreshments will be available from Tico’s Eatery & Juice Bar and Ma & Pa’s Tex Mex BBQ.
There is no sign-up to attend Ciclovia – just come and enjoy! Parking is available at the Quaker Meeting House or Mercer Mall. Registration is required for the Chasing George bike ride. Fees are $5 for individuals, $10 for families of up to 6 people. Register online at www.princetonhistory.org.
