Cultivating the Herb Garden of the Gods
March 10 • 3:00 pm
FreeLearn how to choose which herbs are best for you, what varieties to choose and how to grow them in your yard or windowsill. We will talk about ways to use some common herbs and which herbs the Greek nymph Circe might have used in her Pharmaka/herbalism. There will be a scratch and sniff portion of this!
About the Presenter:
Justine Gray is the Mercer County Horticulturist and Program Coordinator of the Rutgers Master Gardener program here in Mercer County. After 13 years of working at the last working farm in a county up north, Justine has years of experience in agriculture, home horticulture and a deep passion for encouraging folks to get their hands in the dirt! Years of tours to Girl Scouts, school visits, and helping the beginner gardener in the nursery section of the farm became a fast favorite. When not at the extension office or at Howell Living History Farm on weekends, Justine is most likely at home, weeding her garlic patch or riding her horse.
This event is part of the 2024 NEA Big Read – an initiative designed to broaden our imaginations and understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The featured book Circe by Madeline Miller retells a Greek story from the eponymous heroine’s point of view, giving voice to a lesser goddess of Homer’s The Odyssey. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
