ensemble132, an award-winning chamber music
collective based in New York City, will return for a free concert at Princeton University Chapel on March 9. The group is led by Princeton native, Zachary Mowitz (Artistic Director), and longtime musical partner, pianist Sahun Sam Hong (Executive Director). ensemble132 is a visionary collective of chamber musicians of the highest caliber, and the only group of its kind to continually create and premiere new standards in the chamber music repertoire with its artist-crafted arrangements.
Executive Director Sahun Sam Hong said about their return to Princeton University Chapel: “We are thrilled to collaborate for a second time with PUC to present ensemble132’s colorful chamber music programs in the beautiful setting of the Chapel.”
Artistic Director Zachary Mowitz, who just last month won the audition to join the Los Angeles Philharmonic, added: “On a personal note, I’m overjoyed to have this chance to bring ensemble132 back to my hometown. It’s always a delight to perform in Princeton, but this time is particularly special. The members of this collective are all close personal friends and life-long collaborators, while the program is just as varied and eclectic as the cultural scene in Princeton. I hope that this is just one of many more trips we make to Princeton as we deepen our bond with this town that was so significant in my own artistic upbringing.”
ensemble132’s concert program features music spanning four centuries, from a Haydn trio written in 1795, to the New Jersey premiere of a new piano-quintet transcription of Igor Stravinsky’s exuberant Petrouchka ballet. The concert will also feature Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s “Calvary” String Quartet, fusing jazz elements with classical composition.
