Martian Art Project Kickoff

The West Windsor Arts Council is commemorating the historic “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast with a permanent, outdoor, township-wide, family friendly, public sculpture installation, collectively known as the mARTian Project. The first sculpture, by local artist Eric Schultz, will be unveiled as part of the day-long kickoff celebration.
Morning Activities, Farmers Market, Lower Vaughn Parking Lot
Seasonal Craft (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Stop by to create a “gourd”-geous Halloween decoration. Turn a gourd into a spectacular alien friend to welcome all of your trick-or-treaters.
Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Enter to win a cash prize in the “Out of This World” chalk art contest – or just watch and be inspired. More than $1,000 in rewards available, including a $300 Amazon gift card for the winner of the professional artist category.
Afternoon Activities, West Windsor Arts Center, 2 to 6 p.m.
Sculpture Unveiling and Dedication at 2 p.m.: Eric Schultz, the first artist to participate in the mARTian project, will unveil his stunning work, which will be on permanent display at the arts center. Eric is known for his inventive use of discarded materials, which he recycles into art.
Lecture by Rutgers Professor Al Nigrin at 3 p.m.: Discussion on Orson Welles, the actor and director whose 1938 radio broadcast of the War of the Worlds created widespread panic that aliens had landed in Grover’s Mill.
Film Screening of “The Suitor” at 3:30 p.m.: Enjoy a screening of this award-winning short film by Alvaro Congosto, with director’s introduction.
Film Screening of the 1953 version of “War of the Worlds” at 4:30 p.m.:A perfect way to cap off the day. Popcorn and other snacks available for purchase.
