The American Repertory Ballet will kick off its 2019-2020 On Pointe series with special guests – internationally renowned choreographer Septime Webre and composer Robert (Tigger) Benford – at ARB’s Princeton studios at 301 North Harrison Street (above McCaffrey’s Supermarket). On Pointe events are free and open to the public.
The talk, “Behind the Score of Hemlines,” explores the collaboration process between choreographer and composer. Webre’s Fluctuating Hemlines is one of the works featured on ARB’s 2019-2020 season opener at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, September 20-22. Following the conversation, ARB dancers will perform an excerpt from the ballet.
Prior to his current position as Artistic Director of Hong Kong Ballet, Septime Webre was Artistic Director of the Washington Ballet from 1999-2016 and American Repertory Ballet from 1993-1999.
Robert (Tigger) Benford is a percussionist, composer and improviser, specializing in hand drumming and music for modern dance. He recently retired after a long career as an Associate Professor in the Dance Department at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.
ARB launched On Pointe in 2010 to make ballet and related topics more accessible to the community. The enrichment series brings guest speakers, lecture demonstrations, company performance previews and panel discussions to seasoned dance enthusiasts and new students alike, on a monthly basis.
