Princeton Pro Musica, led by Ryan James Brandau, will present a new production of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, with choreography by Mark Roxey, founding director of Lambertville’s Roxey Ballet. The Princeton GirlChoir and dancers from the Roxey Ballet will join the Princeton Pro Musica in an exceptional performance of this iconic work.
“Carmina Burana” draws from a collection of early 13th-century songs and poems—more than 1,000 of them, written in a mix of Latin, German, and medieval French—that was discovered in Beuren in 1803. Orff chose 24 songs and set them to music in what he termed a “scenic cantata.” Originally conceived as a choreographed stage work, Carmina Burana is rarely presented with dance today.
A pre-concert talk on the work and this collaboration will begin at 3 pm.
