Seuls en Scène 2023 presents Portrait de Ludmilla Dabo en Nina Simone

September 16 • 8:00 pm

Free

Ludmilla Dabo, accompanied by Moliere Award-winning writer, director, and musician David Lescot, sings a moving, intimate, and dazzling portrait of Nina Simone, the iconic “High Priestess of Soul.” Through the legendary singer’s music and life story, intertwined with personal stories from Dabo’s own life, Dabo charts Simone’s journey from young musical prodigy to her role as a major figure in the civil rights movement. In this unique performance fusing jazz, soul, and storytelling, Dabo is “Nina Simone reincarnated… A talent that explodes,” according to Le Monde.

The French Theater Festival welcomes the production again, bringing it in a new augmented version in the Wallace Theater. The production was first presented at Seuls en Scène in 2018 at Whitman College Theater.

The show will be performed in English on September 16 and in French in September 17. Show duration is 1 hour, 15 minutes.
