Seuls en Scène 2023 presents Soeurs
September 14 • 8:00 pm
FreeThree female playwrights, Marine Bachelot Nguyen, Penda Diouf and Karima El Kharraze, read three texts that follow the footsteps of their ancestors. Their epic and intimate crossings invoke Vietnam, Senegal, Ivory Coast or Morocco—countries linked to France and its colonial history. Working on familial memories, illuminating sensitive stories on the histories of colonization, diasporas, and migrations, revisiting feminist commitments and cultivating sisterhoods: such is the will behind this staged reading in three voices.
After having written Deux soeurs for the Intrépides collection of SACD (Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers), Marine Bachelot Nguyen commissioned texts from her fellow female playwrights; hence the creation of Sutures by Penda Diouf, and La sacoche et l’invaincue by Karima El Kharraze.
The show is performed in French with English subtitles. Show duration is 50 minutes.
