Witty, elegant, and often downright hilarious, Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music was nominated for 12 Tony awards at its premiere and won six, including Best Musical. It is an operetta with a modern twist, offering a wry but affectionate look at human relationships. Hal Prince, its original producer and director, famously characterized its mood as “whipped cream with knives.”
