Westminster Community Orchestra, conducted by Ruth Ochs, will present a concert titled “The Sounds of Halloween” on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Robert L. Annis Playhouse at Westminster Choir College (please note the venue change). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. The program will feature Mussorgsky’s stirring Night on Bald Mountain; “Hobgoblin” from Symphonic Sketches by George Whitefield Chadwick; Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, and the “Finale” from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “New World.” The Westminster Community Orchestra concertmaster and Westminster Conservatory faculty, Ileana Ciumac, will perform the solo violin part to Danse Macabre. The concert will also feature the students of the Westminster Conservatory’s Suzuki Violin Program in a selection of repertory including a rendition of Paganini’s famous “Witches Dance.” The advanced students in the program will perform Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins. The Westminster Conservatory’s Suzuki Violin Program Soloists is led by violin faculty members June Bender, Urška Haule Feguš, Chika Mimura and Jose Sanchez.
