The 17th Annual Butterfly Festival at the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, August 12, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Held on the 930-acre Watershed Reserve in Hopewell Township, NJ, it is our largest annual educational event at the Watershed. It is an enlightening day focusing on the importance of maintaining the delicate balance between humans and the natural world.
This family-oriented day has grown to be a major regional event, attracting more than 3,000 visitors. The day will feature new and exciting ways in which the Watershed is fulfilling its mission to protect the environment and clean water. Join the staff and volunteers at the Shed in modeling ways to participate in the process of keeping our earth green and provide examples of planet-friendly choices to help support greener-living.
The festival will feature local crafts, products and food vendors. New this year is a Beer Tent featuring Riverhorse & Jersey Ciderworks. After learning all about a butterfly’s life-cycle in the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House, visiting the insect zoo and rambling along on a trail with naturalist, guests can participate in the festival’s much anticipated butterfly and bug parade where costumes are encouraged. Other entertainment will include Live Music, Yoga classes with Swami Cat & Yoga Girl, book readings with a Live Skunk, hula hooping with Glitterhoops and photo ops with a butterfly on stilts!
There will be opportunities to learn new and innovative ways to protect clean water and the environment, and enjoy great food, music and activities for the whole family!
