At age 42, nearly 25 years into her career as a yoga teacher and teacher trainer, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At first she was devastated and sure there had been some mistake. Fighting her diagnosis, she relied on the profound health benefits of yoga and Ayurveda to help preserve her insulin producing cells. Eventually, facing some hard truths, she knew that the only way forward was to incorporate insulin into her diabetes management plan. This was the start of a journey to write a book to help people living with diabetes discover the profound benefits of yoga and to offer her wealth of knowledge through workshops and retreats worldwide.

Rachel was a professional dancer from a young age and trained as a Waldorf educator teaching in both Australia and New York City. She is also a published poet and author, award-winning musician, mother, partner and amateur film maker.
Interested in all aspects of health and wellbeing, she started her Yoga for Diabetes blog to share with the diabetes online community how yoga has helped her to manage her diabetes.

Karen Rose Tank is kindly hosting Rachel Zinman while she is in Princeton, having lived with type 1 diabetes herself for 21 years (diagnosed at the age of 39) and a graduate of a 200 hour TT in Yoga and Wellness with Melanie Smith at Yogaphoria, New Hope, PA and a 180 hour TT with Andrea Sacchetti in Therapeutic Yoga. Karen is a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach helping people with diabetes to manage their blood sugar, loose weight and take control of their health. Yoga has been a large part of Karen’s path of finding both the inner and outer strength and calm to live optimally with a chronic disease.
