Renowned Children’s Author Lynne Cherry shows and discusses her Young Voices for the Planet films and Curriculum featuring Youth Solutions to the Climate Crisis and Models of Civic Engagement and Democratic Practice.
Lynne Cherry is the author of over 30 children’s books including the children’s classic The Great Kapok Tree and is also the producer of the Young Voices for the Planet films. (on PBS). With the Parkland students in the national spotlight speaking out about gun control and political corruption, teachers and parents are asking what they can do to empower youth. People of all ages are invited to attend this uplifting talk and film screening of special interest to youth, educators and the public. The inspiring true stories in the Young Voices for the Planet films document youth taking the lead, creating solutions, changing laws, changing minds and changing the world as they reduce the carbon footprint of their homes, schools and communities. They model youth civic engagement and self-efficacy — the belief in one’s ability to make a difference. The stories reach hearts, inspire action and empower youth to take an essential role in catalyzing change.
