SUMMARY:Morven's Curator Corner: The Joseph Hewes Miniature
DESCRIPTION:RSVP for a free virtual lunchtime talk with the museum’s curatorial team. \nCuratorial Assistant Emily Marturano will discuss the Joseph Hewes miniature\, currently on view in Five Independent Souls: The Signers from New Jersey. \nThis watercolor miniature by famed artist Charles Willson Peale is adorned in garnets and is the only known likeness of Hewes\, a Signer of the Declaration and a founder of the American Navy. Commissioned as a gift\, it helps shed light on personal connections\, sentiments towards independence\, and illness in the months leading up to July 1776. \nPictured: Miniature of Joseph Hewes (1730–1779)\, 1776. Charles Willson Peale (1741–1827). Watercolor on ivory. Loan courtesy of the U.S. Naval Academy Museum.

SUMMARY:New Jersey Women’s Revolutionary Experiences
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the varied experiences of New Jersey women during the era of the American Revolution with historian Lucia McMahon. For many women\, the home front and battlefields remained inextricably connected. Leading up to the war\, women provided essential support for patriotic protests. During the Revolution\, some family homes were temporarily repurposed into military headquarters\, disrupting familiar spaces and routines. New Jersey women were often directly “at the crossroads” of the war\, in close proximity to troop movements\, encampments\, and combat.  \nDate/Time: Thursday\, May 14\, 6:30 pm.  \nLocation: Morven Museum & Garden\, 55 Stockton Street\, Princeton\, NJ 08540 \nIn-person tickets: $20 general admission\, $15 Morven member\, $10 student \nVirtual tickets: $10 virtual\, $5 Morven member\, $5 student \nRegister at https://www.morven.org/events/new-jersey-womens-revolutionary-experiences \nPresented in partnership with the William Trent House Museum.
