SUMMARY:Sky Observing Nights with AAAP & NJ State Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free sky observing night with the Amateur Astronomers Assoc. of Princeton! Offered May 8 at 7:15 pm and May 15 at 7:30 pm. We start at the NJ State Museum with an extended star talk in the Planetarium. We’ll discuss what is visible in the night sky that evening\, with an extra focus on deep sky objects that are observable with telescopes. After the star talk ends (around 8:30 pm)\, we’ll drive to Washington Crossing State Park\, where the AAAP has the Simpson Observatory. We’ll use the historic telescopes maintained by the club to view the objects we discussed at the Planetarium. If viewing conditions are poor we will stay at the Museum for a free showing of “One Sky Project.” \nPlease RSVP for this program: https://forms.gle/cbhzqyRy5GWVrsKdA

SUMMARY:Hidden Meanings in Chinese Art
DESCRIPTION:Bats\, gourds\, peaches\, ribbons\, and monkeys on horses: these images are frequently (and creatively) depicted in Chinese art — but what do they mean? Just as the Chinese language is an exquisite conduit for rebuses (visual puns) and symbolism\, motifs that appear in Chinese art often represent wishes for good fortune. Join us as we decipher hidden messages of prosperity\, health\, and happiness found in traditional Chinese art using selected objects from the Asian Art Museum’s collection. Please visit events.mcl.org to register to receive the link to the program.

SUMMARY:Pop-Up Choir Princeton
DESCRIPTION:The choir you didn’t know you needed. \nPop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families\, neighbors\, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions\, no pressure\, just joy. \nKids and parents sing side-by-side\nAdults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again\nFirst-time singers get to experience the magic of choir\nSing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies. \nRather than being divided by age or gender\, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low\, Middle\, or High. \nFamilies sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony. \nThere will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired\, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you.

SUMMARY:Free Carillon Concert at Princeton University
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating more than 30 years of community recitals\, the Princeton University Carillon continues to host free Sunday concerts for the public. Performances begin at 1 p.m. and are held rain or shine at the Graduate College\, 88 College Road West. \nThe carillon\, housed in Cleveland Tower\, is a musical instrument made up of at least 23 stationary bells with clappers that strike their rims to produce music. It is played manually from a console\, where the carillonneur uses both hands and feet to operate batons and pedals connected to the clappers through a mechanical system. There is no electronic assistance; all sound and expression come directly from the performer. \nBecause the music carries over long distances\, the carillon serves as a community instrument that can be heard across much of Princeton. \nDedicated in 1927 as a memorial to the Class of 1892\, Princeton’s carillon includes 67 bronze bells cast in England\, France and the Netherlands. The largest bell weighs 12\,880 pounds. The carillon program is part of University Chapel Music and is supported by an endowment established by the Class of 1892. \nFor more information\, call 609-258-7989. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Kite Day
DESCRIPTION:Kite Day is a perfect time to explore the farm during this spring festival — Saturday\, May 2 & Sunday\, May 3\, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Spring on the farm is one of the most beautiful and exciting seasons.  All is ready for the bountiful growing season.  Bring your own kite or choose a ready-made kite from the wide selection in the store.  Or better yet\, make a “guaranteed to fly” kite.  Whichever you choose\, take your kite on a test flight in Terhune’s wide-open 10-acre pasture with all the farm animals looking on. \nThe farm will ring with country music and entertainment all weekend. The sheep will be shorn on Sunday and the children can take home a piece of real fleece. On Sunday\, Princeton Morris Dancers will perform traditional May Day dances. There will be live music 1:00 – 4:00 pm each day. \nThe Handweavers of Bucks County will be providing demonstrations and selling their handiwork 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on both days. There will be weaving\, spinning\, basketry\, rug hooking\, and felting. See how these crafts are made and take the amazing artisan works home! \nSpecial for this weekend\, take a wagon ride around the farm 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Take a pony ride. Join in the fun of old-fashioned games and children’s activities in the barnyard\, such as Hopscotch and hula-hoop the horse. Kids will have a great time playing on the farm\, including Terhune’s special children’s play houses\, the Junior Mechanic Shop and Little Tots Farm Store. Don’t miss taking a hop in the Hippity Hop Corral or taking a duck for the Duckie Races. \nFor all those hungry kite fliers\, there will be lots of good country food. The whole family will enjoy Terhune Orchards’ famous apples\, cider\, donuts\, pies\, country chili\, hot dogs\, fresh and grilled asparagus\, salads\, soup and all kinds of cookies and goodies. \nAdults can enjoy a visit to the Wine Orchard\, where Terhune’s own 18 varieties of wine are available for tasting under the 100-year-old apple trees. Tasting flights\, wine by the glass\, and wine slushies will be available to toast Spring. \nThere is nothing like spring on the farm. Visit Terhune’s this spring weekend to enjoy freshly planted fields\, fruit trees and flowers blooming\, the fresh air and beauty of all the season has to offer outdoors. \nFor weekend entry to the winery\, admission tickets must be purchased. \nFor packages and discounted tickets\, guests can purchase in advance online at: https://terhuneorchards.ticketspice.com/kite-day \nFor more information\, call 609-924-2310 or visit: https://www.terhuneorchards.com/kite-day/.

SUMMARY:Voices Chorale: An American Tapestry; Voices of Many
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, our annual spring concert weaves together music from many corners of the American choral landscape. Works by iconic composers such as Randall Thompson\, Aaron Copland\, and Morten Lauridsen appear alongside African American spirituals\, selections from the American Songbook\, and music by contemporary women composers. \nThe featured work on the program is “The Hope of Loving” by contemporary composer Jake Runestad\, a moving composition expressing compassion and the bond of our shared humanity. \nTogether\, these pieces reflect themes of community\, perseverance\, faith\, and hope that form the tapestry of the American experience. \nAt a time when dialogue about the country’s past and future continues to evolve\, this program offers a moment to reflect on shared values and the enduring power of music to bring people together.
