SUMMARY:Manual for a Desperate Crossing by María Irene Fornés
DESCRIPTION:Date/Times: February 20\, 21\, 26\, 27 & 28 at 8 p.m. \nLocation: Wallace Theater at Lewis Arts complex on the Princeton University campus \nDescription: In the sea\, six people have to think like one. Manual for a Desperate Crossing is an epic migratory montage that follows a group of Cuban rafters\, or “balseros\,” fleeing to the United States in the mid-1990s. Cuban-American playwright María Irene Fornés crafts this one-act with her distinctively stylized prose\, which draws from real-life testimonies of balseros\, to create a vast landscape of overlapping fears and dreams. The solidity and security of a home lost to a precarious raft\, a better future conflicting with an unyielding past\, the fight to exist within nature and against nature; these oppositions materialize on stage like narrative tableaus\, memorializing the histories of the thousands who have undertaken these desperate crossings. Directed by Princeton junior Didi Vekri with lighting design and dramaturgy by senior Elena Milliken. In English with English and Spanish captions for all performances. \nAdmission: Free and open to the public\, however tickets are required\, available online at tickets.princeton.edu. \nAccessibility: The Wallace Theater is an accessible venue. All performances captioned in English and Spanish. Guests in need of access accommodations are asked to contact the Lewis Center at LewisCenter@princeton.edu at least one week prior to the event date.

SUMMARY:Book Talk with author Zara Anishanslin
DESCRIPTION:Spend the afternoon at Morven exploring art and revolution with author Zara Anishanslin. This talk will feature her new book\, The Painter’s Fire: A Forgotten History of the Artists Who Championed the American Revolution.  \nThe war that we now call the American Revolution was not only fought in the colonies by Soldiers with muskets and bayonets. On both sides of the Atlantic\, artists also played an integral role in forging revolutionary ideals. Discover the inspiring stories and intertwined lives of three of these largely forgotten Patriot artists: Robert Edge Pine\, Prince Demah\, and Patience Wright. They defied the British monarchy\, armed with paint\, canvas\, wax\, and espionage while risking their lives and reputations to support the cause of liberty. \nYour ticket includes access to visit the museum anytime between 10 am and 4 pm the day of the event. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing with the author.  \nThis program is hybrid! Join in-person at Morven Museum & Garden\, 55 Stockton Street\, Princeton\, NJ 08540 or online (link provided at registration). \nIn-person: $20 general admission/$15 for Morven Members/$10 for students \nOnline: $10 general admission/$5 for Morven Members and students \nThis program is held in partnership with the William Trent House Museum. \nPhoto: Zara Anishanslin © Catherine Hamilton Bernhardt

SUMMARY:Staged Reading of Generation-less by Tiffany Rawlston ’26
DESCRIPTION:In Generation-less\, conceived by Princeton senior Tiffany Rawlston\, four characters of a wide range of ages randomly meet one day in a train station. They unexpectedly confront how their life experiences reflect the highs and lows of modern society and how their unique perspectives might intersect in more ways than initially assumed. This project emphasizes worldbuilding and brings together a mix of styles including sitcom\, fireside chat\, and traditional theater. Much of the show is performed in spoken word and poetry\, with elements of rap. Join us to see what a 50-year-old might learn from a 20-year-old (or vice versa) in the short span of a train delay. Co-directed by Rawlston and faculty member Chesney Show. \nAdmission: Free and open to the public\, however tickets are required\, available online at tickets.princeton.edu. \nAccessibility: The Drapkin Studio is an accessible venue. Guests in need of access accommodations are asked to contact the Lewis Center at LewisCenter@princeton.edu at least one week prior to the event date.
