SUMMARY:Muriel Anderson at Princeton Folk Music Society
DESCRIPTION:The Princeton Folk Music Society presents an evening of dazzling fingerstyle guitar music with Muriel Anderson\, a guitarist\, harp guitarist\, and composer who embraces music from all over the world. Her harp guitar combines nylon guitar strings\, which allow for great variety in tone color with steel harp strings\, which contribute resonating basses and high sparkling trebles. Muriel’s playing reflects a sense of grace and joy\, infused with humor. \nMuriel is the first woman to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. She has performed or recorded with Chet Atkins\, Les Paul\, Victor Wooten\, Tommy Emmanuel\, and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. Muriel fell in love with the guitar at an early age and learned every style available to her\, beginning with folk\, bluegrass\, and then jazz in high school. She received a degree in music from DePaul University and went on to study with classical virtuoso Christopher Parkening and with Nashville legend Chet Atkins. She has composed music since age four or five\, and has written solo instrumentals and vocals\, choral and orchestral compositions. \n“Acoustic guitarist Muriel Anderson… has justifiably gained a reputation as one of the world’s best\, and most versatile\, guitar instrumentalists.” Chicago Tribune \n“After reaching the top in her field – she is widely recognized as the premier female fingerstyle guitarist today – Anderson hopes to encourage and inspire a younger audience\, to turn them on to the beauty of making music\, and maybe in some cases\, even turn their lives around.” The Reporter\, Melissa Erickson \nMore information\, tickets\, and live-stream access: https://princetonfolk.org

SUMMARY:Rakish at Princeton Folk Music Society - live and live-streamed
DESCRIPTION:The Princeton Folk Music Society launches it’s 2026-2027 season with “Rakish\,” a duo comprising violinist Maura Shawn Scanlin and guitarist Conor Hearn. In a performance that is something more akin to concert music\, Rakish explores tunes and songs from Irish and American folk traditions. The name “Rakish” is derived from the traditional fiddle tune “Rakish Paddy.” Maura Shawn is a two-time U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion and a winner of the Glenfiddich Fiddle Competition. Conor is well known in the Irish music communities of Washington\, D.C.\, Baltimore\, and Boston.
