SUMMARY:Art Talk: Three Visionary Women | Three Great Museums
DESCRIPTION:What does a woman do when she is born to great privilege\, has enormous wealth\, loves to travel to faraway places\, and has a healthy dose of intellectual curiosity? Well\, she collects art of course! And then she must envision a place to exhibit her passion. This talk will examine the lives of three remarkable women who defined society’s expectations: Isabella Stewart Gardner\, Helene Kröller-Müller\, and Peggy Guggenheim. We will trace the steps each took to amass three of the most important collections of art in the world and how they built the museums to hold their treasures. And we will see some amazing paintings\, too! Come along on the journey! \nSponsored by the Friends of the Pennington Public Library and the Hopewell Valley Arts Council. Registar via the Zoom link below.  \nAbout Our Presenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years\, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood\, where she taught English\, art history\, and World Languages and Cultures. Now retired\, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools\, libraries\, museums\, senior centers\, community centers\, and similar venues.

SUMMARY:Stewarding with Stories: Sustaining Fish and Community on Lewis Island
DESCRIPTION:Just in time for shad season\, join us on May 28th at 7:30 PM via Zoom for an illustrated lecture by folklorist Dr. Charlie Groth.  Dr. Groth invites you to step into the world of the Lewis Fishery — the last remaining commercial traditional haul-seine fishery on the non-tidal Delaware River.  After a brief introduction to the haul seine method and fishery history\, Groth will share how various story types at the fishery interweave to support community and natural resources. \nDon’t miss this rare window into a living piece of American folklife\, where tradition\, storytelling\, and the seasons still move together.  \nLambertville resident\, Charlie Groth\, PhD\, began studying the Lewis Fishery in 1996 as part of her folklore and folklife doctoral studies and has continued working as a fishery crew member ever since. She is the author of Another Haul: Narrative Stewardship and Cultural Sustainability at the Lewis Family Fishery and a professor at Bucks County Community College. \nFree registration: https://tinyurl.com/5d2wjyr9 \nThe Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP) periodically sponsors lectures about different aspects of the Delaware River’s cultural\, recreational\, and natural heritage. An environmental nonprofit\, DRGP supports the Delaware River Scenic Byway\, the Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River\, the Delaware River Water Trail\, and the Delaware River Heritage Trail.
