Major shift: Many Motor Vehicle centers go to appointment-only operation

Brenda Flanagan for NJ Spotlight News

MVC locations have been plagued by long lines of angry customers as staff worked through backlog caused by COVID-19-related shutdown

Starting Monday, Nov. 2 transactions at 10 of the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission agencies will be by appointment only. Lawmakers and residents have been demanding the option since the MVC reopened in July following coronavirus-related shutdowns.

The decision will allow many to skip long lines and hours of delays, although people will still need to check which locations are closed due to an employee testing positive for the coronavirus. As of Monday, four are temporarily shut down.

Will the new scheduling system clear up frustration and confusion? Senior Correspondent Brenda Flanagan reports.
