Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8 p.m. May 6

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Mercer, Somerset, Hunterdon, Morris, Warren, and Sussex counties that is in effect until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.

A severe thunderstorm watch indicates that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in or near the watch area, but it doesn’t mean they will occur. It’s a heads-up to be prepared.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. in the Princeton region, then a slight chance of showers between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. West wind of around 5 miles per hour will become calm in the evening. The chance of rain is 30%. New rain amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected. Higher amounts are possible if there are thunderstorms.

On Wednesday, there is a slight chance of showers after 9 a.m. Expected a partly sunny day with a high near 75. West winds will be between 5 to 10 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
