Photos: ICE out of Princeton rally
Immigrant and civil rights organizations across New Jersey organized a rally this week in response to the recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and arrests around the country. The protest was called in solidarity with the people of Los Angeles. Protesters called for an end to the ICE raids, arrests, and mass deportations. A local rally was held in Princeton on June 11 on Hinds Plaza. Photos by Resistencia en Accion.
Damn. I didn’t even know it was going to happen. Definitely would have been there. Good job, Rev. Erich Kaussman!
Great!
No Kings in America! Keep fighting fellow resisters!
Hmmm, so the protest was against the Government enforcing the law.
I see people waving a flag of a country they don’t want to go back.
Interesting..
Are the flags invisible in the above images?
Peter your response indicates a total lack of understanding of politics and human behavior. The protest was against deportation done cruelly and sadistically, vs our politicians passing good immigration legislation, doing it effectively and humanely.
The majority of undocumented are not criminals. And if you pay attention to the news, 99% of crime in this country is by our citizens (eg the murder of Democratic politicians in MN this past weekend).
“Sadistically” means we don’t raid an elementary school graduation (CA), and remove parents from children, grabbing people in front of children. Or the obscene prison conditions for undocumented in the private GEO prison in Newark.
“Effectively” means we can’t just deport hundreds of thousands without a plan to replace the millions working in picking your fruit and veges, healthcare workers, lawn care, in construction (half of roofers are undocumented), and nannies.
If the process is rotten, performed with revenge and anger, by people who are indeed racist, the end result will fail.
If immigration policy were conducted with a decent plan, and humanely, these agents and police would not have to hide their identity, and act cruelly.
The waving of the flag, is the same waving of the flag done on St. Patricks Day, and every ethnic holiday celebrate as a diverse nation of people that has contributed to the prosperity of this country.
It’s all the more sad, when we cherish our ethnic traditions from the homeland, but we suffer from the politicians who fail us. Just because Russians, Ukrainians, Israelis or Chinese don’t want to live under repressive governments or governments who decide to conduct war, doesn’t mean they don’t love all the other aspects of their homeland.
Interesting. I’m all for protesting but where were all these zealous revolutionaries when the last administration was allowing illegal crossings by the millions, or when the last administration was proved to be silencing voices from the other side of the aisle by suppressing first amendment rights? If you’re going to claim to defend “democracy” don’t just pick and choose which aspects of it you agree with.
True American spotted!! Good job sir! After reading your comment I feel, Princeton has some hope.
“Zealous revolutionaries,” “silencing voices from the other side of the aisle by suppressing first amendment rights,” ? ‘This is the problem when people listen to propaganda day in and day out, from Fox, social media, Brietbart, etc., when their so called news is name calling, taking things out of context, generalizing, lack of facts, stereotyping. These people need a crash course in logic.
And we wonder why we are losing democracy.
What are people protesting for allowing “ILLEGALS“ into this country? How brainwashed you must be? Must be fun being on the wrong side everytime.
How many of these PRINCETONIANS would take them into their own house and pay all their bills? Let me guess none!!
Only virtue signaling!
People here and elsewhere who are supporting ICE actions surprise me. Why? Because I thought MAGA folks were for the rule of law. And that’s the problem. ICE is not acting legally (never mind the morality of dragging people out of elementary schools, churches, and their own homes without warrants).
Under the laws of the United States, ICE must operate under the rule of law, meaning its actions are governed by legal statutes and procedures. While ICE enforces immigration laws, it must do so within the boundaries of the law, respecting individual rights and due process.
This includes obtaining proper warrants for searches and arrests, and ensuring that enforcement actions are not discriminatory. For example, ICE needs a judicial warrant signed by a judge (not just an ICE form) to enter a home, unless consent is given; also, ICE can only remove individuals from the U.S. under a lawful order of removal issued by a judge. Similarly, by federal law, ICE is prohibited from using race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics as a basis for taking enforcement action.
There have now been instances in which individuals pretending to be ICE officials have committed serious crimes (https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/04/us/ice-impersonators-on-the-rise-arrests-made-as-authorities-issue-national-warning). The problem is obvious — if ICE officials, without producing identification, can simply drag people off the street into unmarked vehicles without a warrant, what stops any criminal from donning a fake ICE vest, a mask, a gun (all of which are easily obtainable) and kidnapping someone?
This is why all of us — regardless of political affiliation — should be demanding our officials follow the rule of law, which applies to everyone on American soil. We are a nation of laws, not of totalitarianism. Although we can, and should, have secure borders and a clear procedure for handling immigration and refugee applications, “disappearing” people as was done during the military dictatorships in Latin America in the 70s and 80s is surely not what we want America to become.
If ICE doesn’t need to follow the law with immigrants, then you and your family are not safe, either. Laws apply to everyone or they don’t apply at all.
